Our Top 10 Netflix Picks
I tried to pick shows that I really love but that aren’t the most common answers when you start searching for your next series to binge. Maybe you are one of those crazy people with tremendous self-control and can handle watching shows in a healthy fashion. We are not those people. We are in the middle between adventurous and homebodies. If we are out and about and active one weekend we will spend the next weekend at home, usually watching at least a couple of episodes of something together. There were so many good shows I wanted to include that I decided to make both a Malori and Tim list to include as many as possible. I’ll also do another post in the future with our favorite Netflix movies.
**Please don’t judge us too much for the amount of tv we obviously watch.

Malori’s Top 10 Netflix Picks:
- Parenthood– 6 Seasons on Netflix. This show is awesome! It is about a family with two parents and their four adult children and their individual families. Between the whole group they touch on several topics that could relate to almost anyone. From building and rebuilding relationships to autism to single parenthood, this show has it all.
- Gilmore Girls (7 Seasons) and A Year in the Life (This one is divided into 4 episodes that are around an hour and half long each)- I have loved the mother/daughter duo. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore for over a decade! This is one of those shows you can binge multiple times.
- Charmed– 8 Seasons. This is another one of my decade+ long loves. This show is about three sisters. It details their sisterhood, other relationships, and careers. Oh yeah, they are also the most powerful witches which means they end up spending a lot of time battling demons and trying to keep their lives as normal as possible without their secret being discovered. If you are anything like me you may also just enjoy the 90’s “charm” of it all as well. They have remade this show and it is currently in season 2.
- Anne with an E– 2 Seasons with 1 more on the way! This series is about the beloved childhood character Anne, from the book written by L.M. Montgomery, called Anne of Green Gables. I knew about this book from my younger years but it wasn’t until I discovered audiobooks that I realized there was an entire series and not just one book.
- Turn: Washington Spies– 4 seasons. There is a touch of infidelity in some of the first few episodes which almost caused me to stop watching but then the show took a “turn” and I ended up really enjoying this show.
- A Series of Unfortunate Events– 3 Seasons- This series is based off of a book series by Lemony Snicket which is the chosen pen name of Daniel Handler. I loved these books as a child and love this netflix original.
- Call the Midwife– 7 Seasons This series is about a group of midwives that live in a nunnery and help the families of East London in the 1950s. It details their personal struggles and triumphs as well as their rolls as midwives. This show is also based on a book series.
- Haven– 5 Seasons. This series is based off of the book by Stephen King called “The Colorado Kid.” I really enjoyed this series because it has a Supernatural meets girl next door type of vibe. This is also a series I would watch again!
- Criminal Minds– 12 seasons! Yes you read that right, 12 full seasons with more than 20 episodes each. I watched this show in my apartment all through college. You have most likely heard about or seen a few episodes of this series but this is certainly one to add to the “binge from the beginning” list of shows.
- The 100– 5 seasons. This show for me came about because Tim had several shows that he enjoyed that I did not and I needed more shows of my own. I started watching this one live but with moving and life I got behind and was grateful it was on Netflix for me to finish out.
*Bonus: How to Train Your Dragon: Race to the Edge- 6 seasons. This series is set in between the first and second movies. How to Train Your Dragon is Maverick’s favorite movie. Yes our dogs not only watch t.v. but also have preferences, they are as crazy as they sound and so are we. While it is a show intended for children we really enjoyed following more of the back story and adding another perspective while watching the movies.
Tim’s Top 10 Netflix Picks:
- Stranger Things– 2 Seasons with the third coming out this July. You have surely heard about this show! I tried to avoid putting really popular shows on these lists but this one is just that good. We have continued to look forward to each new season and hope there will be several more to come.
- Supernatural– 13 Seasons! Woah. Tim has loved watching this show for years and he continues to enjoy it. They recently announced the newest 15th season will be the last. I have often said I need to sit down and watch these from the beginning but have still yet to do it. Someday!
- Iron Fist– 2 seasons. This show, along with all the other Marvel shows, have been cancelled due to Disney starting their own streaming service. Tim told me this show did not receive great reviews but we both enjoyed it. It could just be that we love all things Marvel.
- Jessica Jones– 2 Seasons. I have only ever seen parts of this show but Tim enjoys it. It is also Marvel but one of their darker shows. This show is one that does the occasional cross over with other superhero shows.
- Blue Bloods– 8 Seasons. We happened to come across this show a few years ago and once we caught up on Netflix we started watching it live and still do. It is about a family that is wrapped up in the world of law enforcement. The two patriarchs of the show are the police commissioner of NYC and his father, the former police commissioner. The rest of the family is made up of police officers, investigators, and attorneys that all gather for Sunday dinner each week.
- Quantico– 3 Seasons. I was so disappointed when this show ended, 3 seasons just wasn’t enough. It follows the lives of a group of FBI recruits turned agents as the transition into their new careers serving the country.
- Travelers: 3 Seasons. This show was a little hard for me to get into at first but after I watched a couple episodes I was hooked. The “travelers have been sent from the future back into the bodies at the exact moment that person died. They have to continue on living as that person while trying to change event in history to ensure a safe future.
- Arrow (6 Seasons) and The Flash (4 Seasons)- I put these shows together because typically if you watch one, you’ll like the other. They also have done a few crossovers, along with Supergirl (3 Seasons). These are some of the shows we record on our DVR each week so you can catch up on one or all of them and then continue watching them live like we do.
- Designated Survivor– 2 Seasons. At least one more season is on the way. This show was cancelled by ABC and picked up by Netflix. We watched the show live and very much enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what Netflix does with it.
- Sabrina– Currently 2 parts. This is a much darker take on the old Sabrina series. It focuses more on the magical side and certainly a lot more of the demonic aspects of being a witch. This is not the lighthearted high schooler you remember but that being said we both enjoyed testing out this new version.
**Double bonus: Troll Hunters– 3 Parts. This show is similar to How to Train your Dragon in some ways, it is also a show aimed towards children. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed this show and thats why I am including it on this list. A young teenage boy has been selected to become the next troll hunter which means he, with the help of his friends, must protect the secret world of trolls and all the mysteries that come with it.
***Triple bonus: The OA– Currently 2 parts. This show has some similarities to Stranger Things. Netflix describes it as “mind bending” which I agree with. A young blind woman goes missing and returns 7 years later with the ability to see and a lack of explanation for why or what happened during those years.
Some of the shows I selected for Tim’s list are more popular and you have probably at least heard of them before. We have watched several other shows but many of them are way popular ones like The Walking Dead and Fuller House for instance. So hopefully you were able to find at least a couple of new shows from our lists!
